About the event

This workshop is an immersive and interactive experience with artworks from Hybrid Greening Exhibition at Gatakers Artspace. It will build on Hybrid Greening concepts of shared existence and self-awareness.

The theme for the workshop is inner and outer connection.

Inhabiting your body with self awareness helps to develop curiosity toward the worlds you live in.

Come and explore a gentle Feldenkrais mindful movement sequence to connect to yourself and the artwork around you.

You'll have an opportunity to interact with the artworks directly via contemplative photography, touch and/or words. These will highlight the way embodied movement can shift the way you see and respond to what/who you are sharing the space with.

What do mindful movement and contemplative photography have to do with each other?

Both are about learning to grow your inner and outer attentional skills in rich and diverse ways.

Why is this valuable?

When you can slow down and pay gentle attention to how you move, you will sense more of yourself more clearly and move in more coordinated and varied ways.  Being deeply in tune with yourself can generate a sense of wholeness and well being.

Paradoxically, connecting to yourself won't transform you into a navel gazer!

Self awareness dissolves lack of connection. Being able to notice all the fascinating details of your inner experience naturally encourages outward curiosity and belonging. In a way, you are participating in creating the world you see by inhabiting yourself more fully. This will show up in what you see and photograph.

Contemplative photography is about letting momentary outward impressions appear to you without actively trying to construct a good image. You don't need technical skill for this at all, just a willingness to notice.

Spend the morning practising:

• a slow moving Feldenkrais mindful movement sequence

• interact with the artworks from Hybrid Greening using contemplative photography, touch and/or words.

To conclude:

• share your photos/words with other participants in small groups and projected on the gallery wall

What to Wear?

• loose fitting, comfortable clothing to move around in

What to Bring?

• a thick comfortable mat to lie down on

• a couple of towels for head support

• your phone if you'd like to try contemplative photography

Do I Need Experience?

• This workshop aims to support appreciation of your body and connection to the world around you. It is suitable for adults and teens. You don't need to be fit or be able to take a good photo.

Come as you are!

You DO NEED to be able to get down to the floor and move comfortably.

*If you struggle with movement restrictions but want to come along, please get in touch to discuss modifications.
